How does the fingerprinting process work?

1

Obtain Your ORI Number

An ORI Number serves as a digital address used by the state to ensure that your results are directed to the appropriate regulatory agency for review. It is mandatory to have an ORI Number for scanning purposes. If you're unsure about your ORI number, you can obtain the correct information from your employer, licensing authority, or regulatory agency.

Get answers to your questions about fingerprinting.

What is an OCA number & where can I find it?

The OCA number stands for Originating Agency Case Number. This number is only required for DCF LiveScan Fingerprinting. It is used in conjunction with an ORI number and identifies the specific company which should receive the final results of the background check. You should ask you employer to provide this number before getting fingerprints for DCF.

What is an ORI number & where can I find it?

The ORI number stands for Originating Agency Identifier. This number identifies the agency requesting the criminal history check and for what purpose. Without this number, we can not guarantee that your fingerprints are submitted to the right agency.

What is LiveScan Fingerprinting?

LiveScan Fingerprinting is a digital fingerprinting process in which fingerprints are taken using an electronic scanner, rather than the traditional ink-and-paper method. The fingerprints are then transmitted electronically to the appropriate agency, such as a law enforcement agency or government agency, for background check and identification purposes. This process is typically faster and more accurate than traditional fingerprinting methods.

Your fingerprints are submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) upon departure of your visit.
